Our history begins the Weekend of July 8, 1978. A concerned group of Black Special Agents from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) met in Atlanta,
Georgia for the purpose of establishing a professional law enforcement organization comprised of Black Special Agents assigned to various DEA Regional Offices throughout the world. This group of Black Agents discussed issues which were related to the enhancement of promotions, training, and career opportunities for approximately 169 Black Special Agents employed by DEA at that time.
Consequently, on May 2, 1979, the National Association of Black Narcotic Agents (NABNA) was incorporated in the state of Georgia as a non-profit, Charitable, and educational association of persons engaged or otherwise interested in narcotic law enforcement at the federal, state, and local levels.
